Recharge at Zion National Park

Zion National Park recently installed several ClipperCreek electric vehicle charging stations. Stuart Irwin, Business Operations Manager for ClipperCreek attended the ribbon cutting ceremony and took the pictures below.

The following is an article about the new charging stations, which was published in The Spectrum.

Zion, Pipe Spring join push for electric cars

Visitors can now join Zion National Park rangers in an effort to promote clean air and clear skies by taking the wheel behind an electric vehicle to visit the park.

Park officials from Zion and Pipe Spring National Monument joined with local elected leaders Saturday to celebrate the opening of two new level-two electric vehicle charging stations at the entrance to the Kolob Canyons Visitor Center, part of a larger project that will eventually include 10 stations located throughout Zion and Pipe Spring. Zion has also acquired two plug-in hybrid electric vehicles for use within the park, with another one acquired by Pipe Spring, all through a grant program offered through the U.S. Department of Energy Clean Cities National Parks Initiative.

“As the National Park Service enters its Centennial in 2016, with the theme “Find Your Park,” we look forward to a sustainable and environmentally conscientious second century,” said Jeff Bradybaugh, superintendent at Zion. “By partnering with Utah Clean Cities Coalition, Zion helps visitors find their park in an energy efficient way by installing electric vehicle charging stations.”

The program is the first of its kind to be offered at Utah’s popular national parks, joining a larger nationwide effort to encourage cleaner alternative fuel vehicles. Since 2010, the Clean Cities National Parks Initiative has helped 27 parks across the country to adopt new alternative fuel vehicles, lowering petroleum use and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, said Utah Clean Cities Executive Director Robin Erickson.

“It is our pleasure to partner with Utah’s parks on projects like these, moving forward the National Park Service’s mission to conserve our national treasures for the enjoyment and education of all,” she said.

To use park charging stations, visitors will need to purchase a code at the Zion Natural History Association desk inside visitor centers during operational hours. The $5 code is valid for 3 days, and can be used at all Zion National Park public charging stations.

This weekend marked the end of National Parks Week, a week full of informational presentations, public celebrations and other events tied to the National Parks Service’s efforts to reconnect with residents and reach out to new audiences.

The NPS also released an annual analysis on the parks visitation numbers showing the importance of the parks to southwest Utah’s economy.

More than 5.2 million visitors spent an estimated $336.8 million while visiting Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, Cedar Breaks National Monument and Pipe Springs National Monument, supporting nearly 5,000 jobs and $152.8 million in labor income, according to the report.

Statewide, Utah’s national parks accounted for some $1.1 billion in economic impact over the course of the year, according to the report, with the state showing a 19 percent increase in visitor spending and an 11 percent increase in total visitation over the previous year.

ClipperCreek Attends Formula E

Stacey Barhydt, ClipperCreek’s Engineering and Production Project Manager, attended the sixth round of Formula E races in Long Beach last weekend with her husband, Andy. There are 11 races total; the next race takes place May 9 in Monte Carlo, Monaco. View the calendar for the Formula E races here.

Formula E is a new FIA single-seater championship and the world’s first fully-electric racing series. There is a total of 10 teams with two drivers each. Formula E promotes three core values of Energy, Environment and Entertainment. “The first thing I noticed was that it was very laid back and family-friendly! It seemed like kind of a California Picnic attitude throughout the whole day,” said Barhydt. “Kids did not need earmuffs and there was no smell of fuel; just clean ocean air. The Formula E cars sound exactly like large remote control cars, and it was hard to tell when they were coming, but that actually made it more exciting. Because Formula E cars are so quiet, except when they are right in front of you, it means that you can easily have a conversation with everyone around you without having to shout at all.”

“We sat at Turn 6 which I think were the best seats in the house,” said Barhydt. See a video of the First Official Lap at Long Beach here. Top speeds can be as high as 225 mph. “The first season’s race rules limit the power that can be used by drivers. The power output can be temporarily increased for 5 seconds per car for the drivers with FanBoost.” FanBoost allows fans to vote online for their favorite drivers. The three drivers with the most votes right before the race get a speed boost during the race.

ClipperCreek Announces Availability of LCS-20P Plug-In Electric Vehicle Charging Station at $395

Most popular Level 2 EV charging station now available with four NEMA plug styles

Auburn, CA – Availability of ClipperCreek LCS-20P Plug-In Electric Vehicle Charging Station at $395 — Today ClipperCreek announced immediate availability of its popular LCS-20 EV charging station with a plug, previously available only as a hardwired unit.

Click Here to TWEET THIS: ClipperCreek LCS-20P released: Level 2 EV Charging Stations now starting at $379 hardwired and $395 with 4 plug options! http://ctt.ec/Afd4j+

“The LCS-20 is the most reliable Level 2 charging station on the market and was the first to break the $400 price barrier, making it affordable for EV owners to charge quickly. The plug-in LCS-20P ensures even more EV owners can enjoy Level 2 charging inexpensively,” said Jason France, President and Founder of ClipperCreek. “As the popularity of moveable charging stations has increased, customers have been asking for a plug-in version at the LCS-20 price point and we are proud to continue to be the leader in high value EVSE products,” said France. The LCS-20P is offered at $395 and the original LCS-20 hardwire unit is now offered at $379.

Positive Customer Impact “The LCS-20P now comes with the four most common residential 240V supply power plugs. Some customers will be able to use an existing receptacle and it will cost virtually nothing to install. If a customer does not have a pre-existing receptacle, a licensed electrician can wire one in,” said Will Barrett, ClipperCreek Sales Manager. “At ClipperCreek we use long cables in all our charging stations, potentially saving our customers more money. Plus it’s nice to be able to reach your electric vehicle in more than one location or reach a friend’s vehicle. The cable wraps around the unit to keep it off the floor and our units come with a very durable, low-profile holster to hold the connector close to the wall and out of the way. ClipperCreek stations require no assembly, just mount it to the wall, connect power and start charging.”

Christopher Alan, EV industry expert and publisher of Electric Car Insider Magazine commented on the LCS-20 recently saying, “A couple thoughtful design features make it clear that ClipperCreek designers have enough experience to understand the little details that make the charger easier to use. The company’s reputation for reliability is well deserved. This reporter’s experience with two ClipperCreek units, an LCS-25 and an HCS-60, has been that they operate flawlessly. Neither has ever had ever so much as a hiccup and have never required a reset or any other attention. The LCS-20 is made in America, has ETL Certification and comes with a 3 year warranty.”  To read more about what Alan said about the LCS-20, click here.

Honda: New, two-year used Fit EV lease offered to prospective customers

Honda Introduces New Lease Options for Existing and Prospective Fit EV Lessees

  • Two-year Fit EV lease extension offered to existing lessees
  • New, two-year used Fit EV lease offered to prospective customers
  • Price reduced to $199 a month; no down payment and unlimited mileage, routine maintenance and collision coverage included

Honda is extending the reach of its efficient and fun-to-drive all-electric Fit EV (http://automobiles.honda.com/fit-ev/) through new lease programs for both existing and prospective Fit EV customers. For current, eligible Fit EV customers, Honda is offering a two-year lease extension that includes a lower $199 monthly payment1 (previously $259) and extends the unlimited mileage, routine maintenance and collision coverage1 that were included in the original lease. The reduced lease price and matching two-year terms1 will also be available to new customers interested in driving a used Honda Fit EV. Honda shared the news to a group of Fit EV drivers at an event hosted at the Honda Smart Home US (http://www.hondasmarthome.com/) in Davis, CA on Saturday, March 21.

“Most Fit EV drivers tell us they love their vehicles, and many have requested lease extensions and this extended lease program is intended to meet their needs,” said Steve Center, vice president of the Environmental Business Development Office, American Honda Motor Co., Inc.  “We’re very confident in how the vehicles are performing, and look forward to offering new and existing customers a chance to experience everything the Fit EV has to offer.”

The Honda Fit EV is among the most efficient 5-passenger electric vehicles on the market with a combined adjusted Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mile-per-gallon-equivalency rating of 118 MPGe2, an EPA-rated driving range of 82 miles2, and a super-efficient energy-consumption rating of 29 kilowatt hours (kWh) per 100 miles. When connected to a 240-volt circuit, the Fit EV battery can be recharged in less than three hours3.

Lessees will be contacted by Honda prior to lease end for additional details about lease extensions. Fit EV customers also can take advantage of Honda’s partnership with SolarCity (http://www.hondasolarcity.com/) to install solar power with no upfront cost, allowing them to recharge their vehicle with clean, affordable power from the sun.

Honda Environmental Leadership
Based on its vision of “Blue Skies for our Children,” Honda is taking a comprehensive approach to reducing the environmental impact of its products, advancing fuel efficiency, low emissions and fun-to-drive performance with new powertrain technologies from its Earth Dreams Technology™ lineup, which includes more fuel-efficient engines and transmissions and advanced electromotive technologies. Honda will offer several next-generation, advanced powertrain vehicles, including a new battery-electric model and plug-in hybrid model by 2018 and plans further application of its two- and three-motor hybrid systems in the years to come. Together, these vehicles will offer significant sales volume, enabling Honda to bring ultra-low carbon transportation to consumers in the U.S.

Honda is also demonstrating its vision for zero-carbon mobility and living with the creation of the Honda Smart Home US, in Davis, California, which was opened in early 2014 and is capable of producing more energy on-site from renewable sources than it consumes annually, including enough energy to power a Honda Fit EV for daily commuting.

1 Subject to limited availability in designated market regions on approved credit through American Honda Finance Corp. Closed end lease for used 2013 or 2014 Honda Fit EV for well-qualified lessees. Not all applicants will qualify. No purchase option at lease end. Original MSRP $37,415 (includes destination). Total monthly payments $4,776.00. Excludes tax, title, license, registration, options and insurance. Zero capitalized cost reduction. Lessee responsible for non-routine maintenance, excessive wear/damage.
